Intermondes - humanités océanes is an international artistic residency space dedicated to contemporary creation in all its forms. Since its creation in 2003 by sociologist Jean Duvignaud, nearly 450 artists from all over the world have been welcomed. Intermondes is committed to supporting these emerging creators in their artistic process by offering them working space, material support and professional expertise in creation, research and mediation.

Our mission

Intermondes - humanités océanes is now seeking to promote artistic productions linked to Ocean Humanities, around the Ethnopôle's three themes (Ocean Humanities between métissage, racialization and exoticization, Imaginaires de l'habiter, ou la condition écologique des Humanités océanes, Mémoires et patrimoines des Humanités océanes) in dialogue with scientific research. Between scientific research, artistic creation and promotion to a variety of audiences, Intermondes humanités océanes bridges the gap between east and west, north and south, continents and archipelagos: "By taking the territories of La Rochelle and New Aquitaine as its initial point of observation, the Ethnopôle aims to highlight the material and immaterial connections that exist with other oceanic territories, both near and far".
