Over the centuries, traditional Khon dance has accumulated a body of knowledge that enables Thai theater to create a dramatic art of great sophistication. In 2018, UNESCO classified Khon as an intangible cultural heritage of humanity. Jitti Chompee's work explores the history, art and beliefs intrinsic to traditional performative masks, with a resolutely contemporary expression. Looking at the body as a sculpture in motion, Jitti Chompee experiments with bodily absurdities and the incarnation of half-human and half-animal characters: her creatures explore the physiological limits of different bodies, where Man and mythology are intertwined in an imaginary world. Jitti Chompee's project is conceived as an experimental model around the concepts of "Body Architecture" and "Moving Sculpture", which feed into research and creation workshops for students, building bridges between visual arts-performance and dance, the old and the new, East and West, and nourishing the learning of students at the Conservatoire / ABC, and those in the Lycée Valin's art preparatory class.
