On Saturday, February 17, 2024, at the Centre intermonde, collective memory will be mobilized in the service of resilience and the prevention of the risk of marine submersion.
Studying and safeguarding the memory of events linked to the Xynthia storm (2010) bears witness to the importance our society places on the memory legacy of a major natural disaster. The transmission of lived experience, as a memorial heritage, is essential for current and future generations to better understand and prevent the consequences of such disruptions. In addition to helping to care for traumatized populations, sharing and promoting this heritage aims to build a tutor of resilience to increase the capacity of territories to cope with episodes that we know will happen again. On Saturday February 17, 2024, at the Centre Intermondes - Ethnopôle Humanités océanes, collective memory will be mobilized in the service of resilience and the prevention of the risk of marine submersion. From 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., a multi-disciplinary team will present and inaugurate a major project to collect and promote accounts of the Xynthia storm, supported by the Fondation de France. From 2:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., an open stage featuring Xynthia witnesses and victims, researchers, elected representatives and artists, will discuss the transmission of the memory of this catastrophe as a means of overcoming and avoiding the recurrence of such a trauma.
