Mathias Mareschal

"Take a color and soak it into large surfaces of damp paper; paper then becomes a receptacle for paint, a territory where ink will flow, a pictorial space circumscribed by a limit, an edge, a frontier. Paper edge, painting border; belly and back, right side and wrong side, deeply penetrated by color; width, length, thickness, the place of painting is measurable, real, material data. Mathias Mareschal will spend two and a half months in Bandung, experimenting with traditional ink techniques on fabric (batiks) and paper. His work will be exhibited at the Lawangwangi Art Center.
