Paulius Šliaupa will be present from April 8 to June 14 for a research residency in preparation for his exhibition, which will take place during the Lithuanian season from September to November. Paulius Šliaupa will create a video work based on the wartime bunkers of La Rochelle, as well as Soviet-era bunkers, missile bases and other structures in the forests of Lithuania. As the characters in the video perform rituals and seek a new, alternative relationship with the world and nature, these ominous structures will be rediscovered in the dystopian world of the short film. In the paintings, the cement and metal structures will be covered with sand and vegetation, creating new natural formations. The exhibition will explore the relationship between modern man and nature, and reveal the dangers caused by the technological age, which are altering the fragile relationships in nature. Post-war and Soviet-era buildings, salt-drying basins and oyster-farming structures protruding from the sea will reveal the effects of human intervention on the landscape, as well as nature's slow efforts to reclaim its space. This project is aimed at a wide and diverse audience, especially young people: presentations, visits to Paulius Šliaupa's studio, discussions and meetings with schools, secondary schools, social centers and migrant associations will take place during the artistic residency.
