"Adorei as almas! [I loved the souls!]." Adorei" is the result of an exchange and misunderstanding of the French phrase "A doré", which in the slave quarters was understood as the order to clean the lords' weapons, but in the "terreiros" was intended to gild the souls so that they would shed their light on their devotees. The research proposed by Vargas takes this bifurcation between cult and enlightenment as its starting point, in response to the ruins and ghosts of the processes of colonization and enslavement of black bodies on French and Brazilian soil.
