Residency in preparation for the exhibition _Vanuatu, powers of women_ at the Natural History Museum in La Rochelle from October 18, 2024 to September 21, 2025. Vanuatu, "the country that stands tall", is a South Pacific state that became independent in 1980. It has a rich cultural heritage, with 130 languages and dialects, as well as an archaeological site and the practice of sand drawing, both UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Extremely vulnerable to the vagaries of the climate, it is resilient and leads an international battle for climate justice. Women occupy a unique place in traditional societies, in both rural and urban areas. Their activities, less visible than those of men, are nonetheless complementary. This exhibition, featuring some 100 exhibits, photographs and videos, takes a historical, ethnographic and artistic approach to their role throughout history.
